Video

Technology is used in everyday life now from a cellphone to a computer to a television. It is a big part of our lifes but has it taken over. What happened to the good al days where you were able to use a piece of paper and a pen to write a paper. They lady in this video Dana boyd believe that technology is the devil because they think the schools are loosing there touch on how they teach students. Also you loose a personal contact with people its now easier to write someone an email then talk to them in person or texting them rather then calling them on the phone. She believes that websites are turning into something you only socialize with people with. I get on facebook constantly to see how my friends are doing rather then doing what I am suppose to be doing. People also use them for dating purposes and what happened to going out and meeting people. I feel like sometimes its hard to have a conversation with someone because it is like they forgot how to have one with some body. She gives many examples to prove her points from facebook and myspace to search engines like wipapedia and google. I do not think technology is all bad it does make it easy for you to learn things. You can pretty much type anything into google and you can get the information you need. I do believe that technology is very benefical for educational purposes. Microsoft word tries to help you out with your gammer and spelling and you cant get that from using pen and paper. If you do not use technology you will basically be behind in life. I think technology has its good and bad points like all things and she really illastraes that in the video. It makes you kinda want to debate the pros and cons of technology and is it really worth everything it is made out to be.

class assignment

We are suppose to talk about an assignment we did in class but we never did it. I am just going to talk about what we did in class today. We had to bring in the guidelines for our next essay that is due. We had to take turns reading it and then Mrs. Crawford went into further detail about what we needed to do. The guidelines have basically been the same from our other essays except the topic of course. I noticed that we all had a similar question about the mla format. We are supposed to be reviewing that in class sometime this week. I have already learned that in the writing center from our previous essay because I had no idea what that was. She drew on the board the lay out of our essay and gave us an example of what she expects from us. We all needed to get an appointment to the writing center. She told us we just needed to compare or contrast not both. We need to make sure not to use the word you and keep it in the same tense. Be sure to have strong thesis sentence. Weneed to have six strong paragraphs but we can have five.

what we learned about facebook and myspace

Today in class we went to the computer classroom to make our myspace and facebook pages if we did not already have them. We visited both of those sites to either make the pages or to add people in our class. We explored each website so we could get familiar with each site. We needed to find what was similar and what was different about each of the sites where. I am very comfortable with facebook. I have had my facebook for years now. When I first started using it however I did not like it at all. I had no idea what or how to use it. I just had to play around on it for a little and I finally got the hang of it. I had a myspace for the longest time though I got one when I was a freshman in high school. Once I discovered facebook I deleted my myspace and only had facebook. So when I made my page the other day I completely forgot how to use it. I noticed that they tried to make it like facebook. They have the chat at the bottom and the status to know what you are doing. The profiles are a little different you can make your page all pretty on myspace and can add music on yours. Myspace also has top friends which I believe causes a lot of drama people get really mad if your not on there top. Which it really doesn’t matter those are the people who have to have drama in there life to feel complete. I also believe that facebook is more for collage people and older. Myspace is still really used by the high school kids and lower. I mean I understand the older people have myspaces but that is just my opinion. This class helped me understand the feel for myspace again. I mainly was on myspace throughout to get familiar with it again. I only used facebook so I could add people from the class. I really did not like how myspace has changed so much it made me difficult to learn. I did not like how they tried to copy facebook because I thought it would be easier to learn and it was not. I am going to delete my myspace after we finish this essay cause I will never use it. I just like facebook a lot better!

Eating articles

Today’s articles where about health and fitness and being over weight. They say that is ok for some one in Brazil is ok for them to be over weight they find them pretty. If some one in America was largely over weight they would be judged and would be told horrible things. It really amazes me how different societies work. They say that must off the world is considered over weight. You do not have to be obesise to be considered over weight. You basically have to be a twig with no muscle to be considered. If you don not were a zero or a double zero then what are you besides over weight. Being called over weight causes people to go crazy even though they look really good. This were eating disorders come into play. People to get very sick or just stops eating and then end up in the hospital for dehydration or many other problems. This is also when plastic surgery comes into affect. People get things sucked put of there body so they could look a lot skinner. They get it put some where else they get there wrinkles or to make something else a little larger. Plastic are very dangerous and come with high risk and can even cause the patient to die. I realize the patient knows what they are getting in to. But do you really think they would be doing this if they were not told they were over weight. Some people take it really personally and I believe this is the reason they get into plastic surgery. Some people just let it go and do not care what other people think which is good. Most of the people you see getting plastic surgery are the ones are the people that really don’t need it. They are the people that just don’t think they are pretty enough. I think people really just need to eat better and exercise. There really no health risk in that. People also need to stop listening to what ever body else thinks and just live your own life. You are only you once and why waste it worrying by how you look all the time. You should be loved for who you are and not the person you are trying to be. If someone is trying to change who you are the really don’t care about you at all. You really do not need that in your life.

facebook

I do agree that facebook really does impact your grades. You get on to type a paper or do a research assignment and you end up getting on facebook instead. You could be on there for hours to playing games talking to friends or even just uploading pictures. It is away to get away from you are doing but still being on the computer. Most people get hung up on games and they can’t stop playing. You are always receiving new request to play a new game that come out one facebook. I also so people get really involved in the quizzes. You cant just take one you have to take at least five or more its better then writing your paper. When your one facebook you loose all track of time. You think to yourself I am just going to get on and check my messages and then get right back of. Well ten minutes actually turns into an hour and you wonder to yourself where the time went. I think facebook also carries a lot of baggage. I believe that people believe everything that is put on facebook. If someone starts a rumor or something well people believe it because it was posted on facebook. I think some of the pictures are really over rated and really get mis understood and a lot of people get hurt for them. All I have to say what you do not want people to see don’t put it up or just don’t even be in the picture at all. If you want to keep your life private don’t have a facebook. Things are always going to happen on it no matter how hard you try to keep it private. I also understand that your young and you like to party and have a good time. When you are doing that you don’t think anything of it either. When the pictures go up you think you are all cool and stuff like that. You don’t realize that you are getting judge by these pictures daily. Its going to be harder for you to get a job if you have crazy pictures of yourself every where. You also have to be rally careful of what you say and post on yours and other peoples facebook. Also collages look and how crazy you are to see what kind of people they are bringing into school.

Pandora/Last Fm

Today we explored two music programs that I have never heard of before pandora and last Fm. I am really into music so this assignment really excited me. I learned the basic way how to use both of them today. I found both websites to be very confusing. I did not know if I was adding music or if I was not adding music. I felt like pandora really only had music that were from very popular bands. Last FM seemed to have everyting. I listen to some different kind of muic that you can not always find but I found it on last FM. The only thing I can think of that is simular to these music stations is limewire. I like the two I was introduced to today better. They give you simuliar bands that they think you would like after you search your artist. They keep everything in the same catagory so it will grab your attention. I found it easy to find the songs and the artist you liked on the these websites. I really just did not know how to add songs to a playlist or anything like that. It always takes me a while to get use to a new website but I am a pretty quick leaner. I really am excited to learn about both sites. Like I said earlier I am really big into music so learning about different sites that gets me closer to it excites me. It was hard for me to tell you which one I liked better. Are class is very short and it is hard for you to tell anything in that little time you really need to go home and play around in the sites a little more before you decide. From what I could tell last FM is going to be a better choice I have so far found all the music I love and have found so much more that I enjoy. I plan to continue using these sites and learning so much more about them and music.

The Writing Center

I took my paper into the writing center to recieve help on my paper. I really have never written a descriptive essay. I really ha no idea what I was doing what so ever. I had to watch my you tube video several times just so I could describe what was going on. I had my paper typed up and ready to get help on it I really believed that my paper was not good. I got into my tutoring session five minutes late because the weather was bad there was a lot of traffic and like always I can never find parking at school. Then I had to fill out the green sheet of paper in order to know what I needed help with. I pretty much only had twenty minutes in my session. My tutor said she was very familiar with the assignment because she had tutored some of my classmates already. She asked me if I had any specific questions on the assignment. I really had no idea what an MLA format was I have never heard of that. She took me through the process step by step. She helped me create mine and so I had it for my paper and I did not have to worry about it any longer. She also read my conclusion and told me that it was really good and that shocked me. She just helped me with my mispellings and things like that. She read the last paragraph because she said that is the last thing my teacher will read and it needs to be really good. She said that it was what she thought she was looking for and I used a lot of descriptive words. I wish that I had made it to my tutoring session on time so I could recieve more help on my paper. Next time I will leave my house earlier so I can make it there. I wish she would of helped me a little more she really did not give me a lot of feed back.

Commenting on Blogs

Today we went to the writing center and had to read peoples blogs and write comment about them. I liked reading other peoples blogs. Some people were very intersting. I like to here other peoples opinions compared to what I thought about that topic. It really did amaze me how people are really so differnt. I really did not see to many blogs that were the same and everyone views everything differntly. I also liked telling people what I thought about what they said. I also found myself correcting them or giving them helpful hints to try and improve them. I tried to stop doing that and just say postive things because that is what were suppose to be doing. I did not like the fact the other people could be reading my blog. I was nervous to here what they had to say about my blogs. It really made me unconfortable I think those are my opinions and I did not really want everyone reading my blogs. Blogs are your opioions and what you believe in the certain topic you are talking about. I really do not like blogging for that reason because I want my thoughts to stay to myself.

Timeline

Today class we got with a partner and made a timeline. This was a timeline that was supposed to help us with our descriptive that was going to be due soon. I liked working with a partner they helped you have a new outlook on your video that I would of never thought of. The begining of the time line was the first part of your vlog. The Last part of the time line was the last part of your vlog. The Middle few parts was everything else that happened in the vlog. The time line was simple facts and descriptive words that would be able to help us expand onto the topics in our paper. This helped me because I got the basic topics down that I wanted to talk about in my paper. I really just had to take what I have aleady written and just really expand about it. It really helped me start my paper. I always have a really hard time starting my paper but for some reason this little activity really helped me start writing my paper. It really helped me be really open minded about my vlog. Talking about it out loud and getting a partners feed back really helped me write it as well. I really like more then one opinion then just one person. I think it is important that you get more feed back then just one person. I like to here from more then one person so I have all different kinds of opinins. I also feel like Igot to know my partner a little better. He was someone I really never got to know in class, I found out that he was very interesting and he was really funny. I like to get to know new people. I am a very shy person but can open up. I really think this activity was very helpful for my paper

Ten Random Facts about Myself

The title of my vlog that I chose today was called Ten Random Things About Myself. The authors username is Jadee801. She is a british teenager that tells us random facts about herself. She starts of showing pictures of herself from when she was a baby until the presnt. She starts talking about her ear piercing and how she loves them. She had to take one out because it started to grow out funny but she is getting it repierced. She then she started talking about when she went to an alkalin trio concert. She waited several hours after the concert and she got to meet them. She also showed a picture of her and the bang on the screen. She hold up a guitar and tells us that she is trying to learn how to play it. She also says that she is failing miserably but she is going to keep trying. She then she tells us about her field trip to the museum. She holds up some napkins and says that this was her suviner that she picked up from the museum. She says that noboby sould get into arguement with her. She tells us that she does not ike arguing but if someone starts one with her she will always finish it. She holds up a CD case by Jeff Buckley which is one of her favoite artist. She tells everyone to go and check him out but after we finish watching her video. Then she says that she feels like she is talking to herself and then she finds it kind of weird. She loves to draw and nothing inpaticular she likes to draw everything. She holds up five or six different pictures that she drew. She then she talks about how her baby cousin was born on that day. She showes a picture of the baby but it was so little you could hardly see him. Then her last fact was just talking about her dad. She told us that he was an ear piercer and was the one who pierced her tragus.

You Tube Video

Today we had to go home and watch the you tube about the founder of you Tube. The video was very lenghty. I got bored of watching the video it was nearly an hour long. My eyes gt very heavy and I nearly fell asleep sevral times while watching the video. The man was very monatone and he never really showed expression. I did learn about a lot different things about the internet that I did not know about. There are over 200,000 three minute videos on you tube videos. One of the biggest video was Gary immatating the song by Ozone. They say this video was viewed over six million times. They show how many videos have been uploaded in the certain catagory you searched for. The man shared many different stories about his life and how they related to certain things on you tube. They talk about how many different ways you can connect with people on the web. He also talks about the You Tube videos that he has made and how many views he has had on them. Dig.com is a music generated based website. On you tube when you search somthing they come up with related videos that they believe you would be interested in watching. One of Mike welsch's video was number one video in super bowl sunday. The way you tube got so big was going through other websites for example myspace and facebook. He teaches a class that teaches kids how to use you tube. The people between the age 18-24 are the people who watch the most you tube videos. There are all different kind of videos that are uploaded on you tube daily. Home videos are mostly uploaded on you tube. They are alot of videos of people who are immataing music videos. I did learn alot of things that I did not know about and probally would of never known if I did not watch the video. The video did have alot of good information. I just wish the man was more interesting.

Diference between the two emails

My first email was just how I felt. I was voicing my opinion to a friend that I was angry about the grade I recieved. It was not as formal as the email that I had to write my teacher. The email to my teacher was very polite and respectful so she might improve my grade. My friend email was just me complaing about the grade and not trying to do nything about it. I took alot more time and effort into my email to my teacher. I had to go through many steps in order to finish my paper. When writing my blog it is like a draft that you write and never go back to. I worked to make my paper to make the paper the best of my ability. I wrote my blog because I have to get the grade. The length of my paper to my teacher was longer then my email to my friend. I had to write serveral paragraphs and construct a good paper to turn in for a good grade. The email to my friend was my own voice and how I felt. I could go off and vent and say what I wanted to say and it did not matter. My teachers email was my voice but I could not express how I truely felt. I had to be polite in order for her to change my grade. I had to be convincing so she would help me pass. The email I sent to my teacher are the emails are the format I will send professinals for the rest of my life. I am glad we had to do this assignment so I know how to handle myslef when i do have to send a email in the future.

Writing Workshop

I really did not like the writing workshop at all. I feel very unconfrtable reading my paper to my peers. Everybody got destracted and stop listening to the paper or talked while the person was reading. Therefore there really was not very good feed back for me to improve m paper. We really did not help anyone to answer the question the had to but on there paper so they can improve there email. It was also they same feed back to everyone. We just kept repeating the same thing for example you need to add more details inorder to make your paper longer. I feel that the groups did not help me improve at all. I like that we have to go to the writing center because that helped me alot. They went through my entire paper and helped me with every little detail. I know what I should do for m next paper in the future. I also liked how miss crawford walked around during groups and helped you individually if you had personal questons. I really did not understand why we had to talk about our progress out loud in front of the class. I also did not like the unique questions. All of my questions were answered and I really did not have any when i walked into class that day. It was hard for me to come up with a question that i really didnt need answered. I liked how we had many different writing workshops that were suppose to help us but not all of them worked.

online dating

I have never argeed with online dating. I think it is very unpersonal. People always lie on there profile so you do not really no the person you are suppose to be getting to know. Then When you meet them you have no idea who they are or there background. Online dating sites should run background cheeks but you can also never believe if they did that. therefore they can avoid any problems that can come someones way. I like the dating websites that do not have pictures. You get to know the person for who they are and not what they look like. Being attracted to them physically is impotant. I always believe that being in love with the person for who they are and not what they look like. I think you should get to know them and then sent them a picture after you have been talking for a while. If I ever used an online dating site I would use a big dating site for example eharmony. The biger sites would make me feel more confortable. They would seem to be more organized and know what they are doing. I also think online dating makes you loose your personal feeling with everyone else. You do not know how to talk to other people. You will always depend on electronic devices to talk to people. Then also you would be glued to the computer so you can talk to the person. I understand that dating websites have helped some people find there special some. I just want to go out and meet my special person.

The Good and Bad of todays class

Writing is one of my hardest struggles in school. I have always struggled in this area ever since i wrote my first essay. It also doesnt help that all of my teachers pretty much held my hand and walked me through the process each year. Everytime that i have to read someones paper I think I always give bad advice because I am not a strong writer myself. I always get nervous as well when someone reads my paper I think they are going to laugh and make fun of me. I mostly like group work but not when my paper is involved. The worst part about today is that I didnt even no where to start on my paper. I always have trouble with the opening part. When it was time to get into our groups I had barely anything on my paper because I didnt know where to start.

The good part is that I am finally getting confortable with everyone in my class. I feel that I can trust them to act muture enought to read my paper and only make comments to help me better my paper. I like when people do help you with my paper because my writing starts to flow a little better. I always need someones feed back to help me with the spelling I missed or the punctation that I did wrong. I liked the postive feed back as well what was good about my paper. It makes my attitude go up about writing. I feel like I am improving and starting to get a grasp on it. I also like when more then one person reads my paper so I can have a lot of feed back not just one persons. I no that I have to get over my fear of writing and letting people read my paper. It is a very slow process but it is finally coming along.

In class Discussion (articles day 2)

I believe that every kid should be introduced to techniology at a very young age. It is important to know what it is going on in the world at a younger age. Technology is a key thing in people lives and everyone uses it on a daily bases. I was introduced to computers at a very young age and that really helped me through out my educational career. You go out into the world today and hardly see anyone not using some kind of technology. You can barely find a job without knowing how to use the basics of the computer. I realoze that some families live in poverty and really cant afford to have a computer in there home. Schools have been given many computers so that children can learn how to use them. Parenst really need to go out and strive for the children to learn. They need to prepare for there future now because it comes really fast. Technology has taken over are lives but everyone needs to know how to use it.

I have to strongly disagree with the universities that give away iphones or computers to there Freshman that attend there school. The article showed the postives and the negatives. I am really big on the negatives. I think it is a really lazy way for the teachers not being able to teach and they also loose that one on one feeling. If your iphone breaks then you fall behind in school which that shouldnt have to happen. You can get easily destracted in class by playing games or getting on other internet sites. On top of all the other school chargers they have to pay for the monthly rate to keep there phones actavated. I believe school is some where to learn not about what you get from it to go there.

Two Articles

In todays discussion I looked upon different things in a new way. We talked about how texting really affects your writing. In my personal opinion I think it does. When I am writing a paper I have to watch myself not to shortner my words. I really have to watch my spelling because your phone can help you spell out what you need to. I am not speaking for everyone out there. Some people I know speaks in full sentences and doesnt shortner any of there words. I dont believe that texting to much can cause problems. You use your hands and fingers for pretty much everything and nobody says anything about that. I think the bad thing about texting is that you loose that personally touch. You resort to texting rather then picking up the phone or talking to the person face to face.

I believe the universitys that were giving away iphones or laptops were just trying to get students to go there. Even though the brib is good students dont relieze they have to pay the extra chargers that go along with these devices. I personally would not go to those schools only if they helped me benfit my major. I think they are going to be a destration and take away the basic way of teaching the one on one feel. Then the students and teachers would both how to use these things otherwise they would fall behind. I believe you should go to a unviresity to better yourself in life and see what the offer to help you. Dont go some where based on what object they are offering you. Kids are so greedy these days and you dont no the kind of people that would just come up and steal your expensive items. I think todays descussion really helped me open my eyes. I got new look on todays society and what has involved out of it. Technology has grown so much and really has taken over peoples lives.

Todays Discussion

In class today we learned what we will be doing through out the semester in english. I am excited to be learning how to really improve my writing cause that is not my strong point in school. I have really needed held in learning how to improve my writing for my future. I am really happy with the groups I like knowing I have someone to go to when my teacher is unavilable. Everyone in my group seems very friendly and can help me when I need it. I am not very good at grpup presentations so I think all of our presentations and class disscussion will help me get over the fear of that. I like reading the articles because I will be able to learn about new things that I didnt no about. I will like to hear everyones feed back and there different opinions about what they had read. I like to learn new things it really intrests me and holds my attention in the the class so I keep doing well. I really like blogging because it really isnt a formal paper. You really dont have to worry about an opening sentence, paragraphs and things like that. Blogging it something you get to speak your mind about. It is your opinion and how you feel on the subject. Writing is going to be my biggest issue this year. I have already had a tough time writing. I was babyed my whole way through high school that I always made good grades on my papers. Of course I liked it back then but now that I am in collage it worries me that i dont really know what to do. I am looking forward to this class so I will no how to write a good paper. This class is going to help me through out the future.

Bad Grade

I was sitting in my math class take an exam. My pencil had slipped out of my hand and landed under the desk of the person sitting next to me. I tapped the person on the arm and pointed at the pencil under her desk. I did not open my mouth and I did not say a word. My teacher looked up from grading her papers on her desk and saw me looking at the girl next to me. She didnt even ask and picked up my paper and put a zero on it. My grade had dropped a whole letter grade because of that test. I thought this was a very unfair situation because i didnt even get a chance to stand up for myself and tell my half of the story. The worst part of it all was that the girl next to me didnt get anything done to her because she was facing in the right direction and I was not. I talked to all my friends about it as well as my parents and they told me to go talk to my teacher about the situation. I had to work up some courage to go talk to my teacher I just had this feeling that she wasnt even going to listen to me. Finally the next day I walked into her office and asked if I could speak to her. She told me to sit down and I began to talk. She listen to my story and she just kept knodding her head and smiling. She told me that she knew I wasnt a student that would cheat on anything. She also told me that she has to treat every st udent the same way and if she saw anyone else doing that she would of done the same thing. She said she was sorry but there was no way i could retake the test or improve my grade. I walked out still thinking this was unfair and she didnt even think twice about it. I just told myself i will make sure to bring an extra pencil to all my classes.

My Writing process

My writing process takes time and I am very slow at it. I always wait until the very last minute to write my paper. Knowing that my paper is due soon gives me a rush and makes my paper better then it would of been. The worst part is that sometimes I dont no where to start and then i end up staying up all night to write my paper. If I am at home writing my paper i will get on the internet and either online shop or get on facebook. I will honestly do anything other then what I am suppose to be doing. I need alot of caffine or candy to keep myself awake or give myself something positive before starting to write my paper. I will make sure to start early enough so I can take neccessary breaks like lunch and dinner but then I will end up staying downstairs for an hour or two. Then my friends either call or text me and I will end up talking to them for a while yet again another thing taking away from my paper. I always go downstairs and play with my dog and ended up giving her a bath. When I finally ready to write my paper I go upstairs to write and end up sitting there for an hour wondering how I am going to start my paper. Then sometimes I do a little prewriting. I make sure I have all the facts and if I am missing some I go on the internet and recieve all I need. Then I figure out my first sentence and then how I am going to organize each one of my paragraphs. Then i finally get my paper started and it is easy sailing from there.

Technology in my life

Technology has grown so much since I was kid. In todays society everyone depends on technology to get through the day. You can not walk down the street and not see one person not on his or her cell phone. It enhances my life in so many I one have a cell phone that i use on a daily bases. My cell phone helps me to comunciate with my parents to tell they how I am doing and what is new in my life. It helps me keep in touch with my friends that have moved away to collage. Calling someone on the phone and texting them is not as personal as seeing them face to face but this way you dont loose touch with them. I always use the internet such as facebook, aim, and myspace to keep in touch with my frriends so that way it doesnt cost us any money. You can also meet new friends on the computer that way you have more then just your close friends. I also use the internet to reasearch things for school to help me write papers. I type my papers on the computer so they nice and neat when i turn them in to my teachers. Mp3 players such as ipods also inhance my life i love music and listening to it always makes me happy. Technology has grown so much you went from pagers to cell phones bigger desk top computers to mainly everyone using laptops. Everyone use to live without technology but i know i couldnt to this day. Technology is a big part of my life and i use at least one form of technology in my everyday life.
